Well folks, it's the end of my first week as a grad student. And a fellow student just introduced me to this website, from which I got the comic below. There are quite a few other students in the group and they tell me this is a brilliant observation. Enjoy.

I really enjoyed the comics, but one thing I can't work out: what does the graph under the X-axis represent? Just curious..

Thanks for writing. Yep, I wasn't sure about about the negative y-values myself. I think it's when grad students do things that just generate more work but without any useful results. Like spending a whole day staining and fixing cells and then not mounting them properly, so the whole process has to be repeated. Before that, though, cells need to be cultured again, culture media needs to be changed, the glassward needs to be autoclaved...
