- Saw some cataract operations. Microsurgery is very, very impressive.
- Attended my university’s Freshers’ Fayre.

- Started reading ‘Anna Karenina’.
- Moved into to temporary accommodation, sharing a room with my sister for the first time in fifteen years.

- Represented Brazil in the Imperial College Model United Nations debate on reforming the Security Council.
- Flossed.
- Saw a woman drive to work in yellow Marigold washing up gloves.
- Submitted my abstract to the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine 14th Scientific Meeting. If accepted, I'm off to Seattle, Washington next year to present my work. I was deliriously happy all Tuesday.
- Nearly had a meningitis C vaccination.
- Received a postcard from Gambia. My friend's on a medical elective there.
- Sent an email to an arrogant postdoc in the lab.
- Got my bicycle light stolen. Riding down the A40 in the dark during the middle of rush hour is seriously frightening.

Week's achievements
Random things I've done this week, in no particular order:
- Requalified to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).
- Went to my first opera with Kevin and Amy (the friend of a friend's daughter on an exchange from the US). We saw Gaetano Donizetti's 'The Great Flood' at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. The rendition was in Italian, and before we bought programs at the interval we didn't understand a word.
- Disco danced in inappropriate shoes.
- Forgot to go to a French lesson.
- Went to the British Mountaineering Council's Winter Series Lecture. I didn't know Scotland was such a rugged and beautiful country. I'd better get my crampons soon.
- Put in an all-nighter in the lab.
- Wore the same pair of jeans four days in a row.
- Gave a presentation on 'Using diffusion tensor imaging and deformation based morphometry to investigate the developing preterm brain'.
- Flossed.
- Finished reading Richard Dawkins' 'The Selfish Gene'.

Week's achievements
Random things I’ve done this week:
- Learnt how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). I am now qualified to shock people.
- Asked a van driver for directions near Piccadilly Circus. He ignored me.
- Flossed
- Gave me supervisor a headache. I’m sorry!
- Caught up with good ole high school friends over an eye-wateringly spicy curry.
- Studied like there’s no tomorrow.
- Got clipped round the ear by my mum. It’s the first time she’s slapped me in about eight years.
- Tried yak meat, offered by one of my lab mates who just returned from a trip to China. She didn’t know the English work for yak, and described it as a cow with feathers.
- Ate four packets of salt and vinegar flavoured Pom Bear crisps for lunch.
- Cried along with every else as England won the second test match in the Ashes cricket series.
